I regret not taking a picture of the steep part of the road... |
Even way out in nowhere there are signs. |
Another sign. |
An awesome Pictograph. |
Here it is again. |
Looked like a party to me... |
Sad to see them go ... |
one more ... |
View to the West from the pictographs. By the way, be very careful when climbing down into the arroyo, there are some tricky spots... |
So we took our leave of the pictographs and went east up the arroyo. There were just a couple of spots we had to climb over. Now it is on to the slot canyon and Singing Rock! |
There were Ocatillo sentries and happy singing swallows. There was a bird there that I cannot identify. But he had a pretty song. |
Here is the bird that I could not identify. He wouldn't let me get very close. He is in the very center, do you see him? |
Here is the unidentified flying object, cropped and zoomed ... |
We found the residence of mr. and mrs. Rattle E Snake. They did NOT invite us in for tea and crumpets! |
The entrance to the slot canyon...
Stepping into the slot ... |
Continuing through the slot... |
The smile ... the gawk ... the long kiss goodbye... |
The walk back. What you don't see is a deep trench between here and there. |
What a nice writeup--glad you enjoyed it! If you come back, there are a few paths Kathleen could take to join you. From your vantage point on the side of the arroyo (where you can see the "formidable entrance"), you can continue east just beyond the first wall, then work your way down just beyond the slot. Don't go too far east or the cliffs will stop you. Or, as in the cache description, you can park on the main road and walk west down the arroyo, with no real barriers (just a barbed wire fence).
